What is keyword stuffing?
Keyword stuffing is a black-hat SEO technique that involves filling the website content with the keywords in an unnatural way in order to get better rankings.
In the past, ranking a website was much easier than it is in today’s saturated market. Sometimes, all you needed to do was to visit Google Keyword Planner, look at the keywords with the highest search volume and use them in your website content – the more the better.
Keyword stuffing was an easy way to trick the search engine crawlers into thinking that your website is the best answer to the specific search phrase – the more is the keyword present in the text, the more relevant is the website, right?
Nowadays, keyword stuffing is no longer working and if the keyword is used unnaturally, it may even lead to the disappearance of the page from the SERP results.
How to avoid keyword stuffing?
Keyword stuffing is an outdated black-hat SEO practice and you should try to avoid it under all circumstances. Google is very clear about it in their Quality Guidelines:
“Filling pages with keywords or numbers results in a negative user experience, and can harm your site’s ranking. Focus on creating useful, information-rich content that uses keywords appropriately and in context.”
Of course, this does not mean that you can’t put the keywords in the right positions to make sure that the topic is clear. If you write an article about air purifiers, it is only natural that the keyword will be present in the title, description and it will will occur in the text too.
The general rule of thumb is to write the text naturally. As long as you’ll write for people with the good readability and user experience in mind, you don’t have to worry about being penalized for keyword stuffing.
